research update
I just submitted my last method write-up. I was not able to submit copies of the actual benchmark scores, too much information on students. My research project was extremely informative. I learned much about comparing and organizing data.

research update
I worked on student data for several hours today. Benchmark scores are coming in with only about twenty make-ups to finish by Wednesday. I should be able to complete my project with the information.

research update
I am currently working on a post test for the children attending after-school math tutoring. I plan to include questions from each objective they have been taught.

research update
Research problems!!! I just found out that I will have to cancel my after-school tutoring groups next week due to testing. This will put me behind a week. I can only hope that I will have enough time to collect the needed data to finish my project.

research update
I just finished my method two write up. The second set of data was the survey monkey given to the teachers involved in after-school tutoring. I'm trying to decide which graph to include in my write-up.

Research update
A few changes to note about my project. The after-school tutoring groups for math continue to be small in number, however, I changed the children around in each group. Some were playing and not staying on task. so far, this seems to be helping.

Research update
The second pre and post tests results should be ready this week. I look forward to seeing the results. The students are still working hard during after-school tutoring, using hands-on manipulatives each day.

Research update
I have 100% of the results from my first survey monkey. It was great to read the positive comments about our after-school tutoring program. It was informative to read the comments that were not so positive, these gave me ideas on how to improve the program.

Research update
I sent out my first survey monkey today! I look forward to reading the results. I sent the survey to the teachers participating in after-school tutoring. The feedback is important to the research if we are to meet the needs of our students.

research
Research update: This is the third week I have been collecting data on my after-school tutoring group. The children took a post test this week and to my surprise, did worse than the pre-test. The scores were considerably lower! I will study the variables to try and figure out what happened.

Research
I am starting to collect data on my students this week. I have one pretest complete and a post-test will be administered this week for the first goal reviewed in math. The students seem to like the math activities after school. I have planned hands-on activities to help them learn the concepts.

Research note
I've condensed my topic again. I am concentrating on Benchmark results and not End of grade tests. My group of students is much smaller. I think I am on the right track this time.

Research plan
I have decided on a topic for my research. The question: How are students reading and math scores affected by small group, after school remediation? I work with many students who are average in ability but are unable to make passing scores on benchmark tests. This lack of performance must be due to lack of mastery of the concepts being tested. Careful review of the benchmark tests, have helped me to identify students who need intervention in order to be successful on tested material. I have planned an after school tutoring program that targets math and reading objectives not mastered by these students. I am still working on the method of data collection and the tools I will use to measure success.

Research Idea
Still searching for an idea! I have yet another one floating around in my head.
Action Research question: How are reading and math end-of-grade scores affected by small group after school remediation? (grades three-five)
I think this might be the one because I can get the data to support the topic and I will be tutoring these students starting next week.
Any thoughts?

Research idea
I had a new idea for a research project. Several of my math students are performing poorly on word problems. I've taught them many strategies that they are not applying. I wonder if I start requiring them to keep a journal on how they solve problems, including the strategies they use to solve each problem....would it improve their problem solving ability?

Research Idea
I've been thinking of ideas for my project and have yet to come up with something solid. One idea I have is concerning my first grade reading students. I have a group of six students that I work with on reading strategies. Each child came to me basically on the same level. After two months of intense reading instruction, I only see gains in two of my students. I have many questions as to why this is the case.
